Adductor - Groin

Intermediate Adductors Abductors Stretching Body Only Gym

Purpose: This exercise is a controlled, balanced inner hip exercise for adducting the hip.

Benefits: This is a good exercise for strengthening the muscles for raising the legs to the sides.

Lie on your back on an exercise mat. Raise your feet towards the ceiling. Your workout partner holds your ankles, while you spread (abduct) your legs as wide as you can. This is the starting position. Squeeze your legs together (adduct) while your workout partner attempts to prevent the adduction. Continue for 10-30 seconds. Exhale during this movement. Relax your leg muscles while your workout partner pushes your feet apart. Inhale during this movement. Repeat for the required number of repetitions.


There are four groups of muscles that cause movement in the hip joint. They include the gluteal group, the lateral rotator group, the adductor group, and the iliopsoas group. The prime group for hip adduction is, obviously, the adductor group, a group of muscles on the inner hip joint.

Step 1

Lie on your back and raise your feet towards the ceiling. A partner holds your ankles wide apart.

Step 2

Adduct your legs while your partner prevents it, continuing for 10-30 seconds.

Squeeze your legs together (adduct) while your workout partner attempts to prevent the adduction. Continue for 10-30 seconds. Exhale during this movement.

Step 3

Relax your leg muscles. Your partner abducts your legs.
